Take Screenshot Windows

A Beginner's Guide to Taking Screenshots on Windows with Ease

Screenshots are a powerful tool for visually teaching someone a new skill. Whether you are using a PC or a Mac, knowing how to take a screenshot can be incredibly useful. In this article, we will cover different methods for taking screenshots on various Windows versions, in just five minutes or less.

How to Take a Screenshot on Windows

If you are using Windows 10, 8.1, or 7, there is a built-in tool called the Snipping Tool designed for capturing screenshots. This tool offers four types of screenshots:

  • Free-form snip - capture a screenshot in any shape you want
  • Rectangular snip - capture a screenshot in a rectangular shape
  • Window snip - capture a screenshot of a specific browser window or dialog box
  • Full-screen snip - capture a screenshot of the entire screen

But taking a screenshot is just the beginning. The Snipping Tool also allows you to annotate, remove URLs, and share your screenshot. Here's how:

  • Annotate: Use the Pen or Highlighter buttons to write or draw on your screenshot. The "Eraser" tool can also remove unwanted lines.
  • Remove the URL: To eliminate the URL from your screenshot, uncheck the Include URL below snips (HTML only) box in the Snipping Tool options.
  • Share: Choose from the "Send Snip" drop-down menu to share your screenshot with others.

Let's now explore the basics of taking a screenshot on Windows 7, 8.1, or 10:

  1. Open the Snipping Tool by searching for it in the Start menu (Windows 7/10) or the Search function (Windows 8.1/RT 8.1).
  2. Select the desired snip type by clicking on Mode, then choose the area of the screen to capture.
  3. After taking the screenshot, click on Save Snip and provide a filename, location, and file type to save it.

Take a Screenshot of an Active Window Faster:

For a quick screenshot of your active window, simply press Alt + PrtScn. This will save the screenshot to your clipboard, and you can then open an image editor and save it from there.

Take a Screenshot of Your Entire Screen Effortlessly:

If you want to capture the entire screen without manually saving it, press Windows Key + PrtScn. The screenshot will automatically be saved in the Pictures > Screenshots folder.
