Expert Tips for Modern Website Design in 2024

Looking to have your website stand out and potentially be featured on our best website design inspiration list? Consider these helpful tips from web design expert Vitaly Friedman.

The world is constantly evolving, and so should your website. On a recent episode of The Futur podcast, Friedman shared his blueprint for modern website design. Here are some of his top suggestions:

  • Test and validate your design decisions. Instead of guessing, conduct testing with at least 15 diverse participants to receive valuable feedback. Create design tasks that simulate real-life situations and make adjustments based on the results.
  • Design for clarity. Make sure your design is easy to understand and navigate. What may seem obvious to you may not be clear to others. Keep it visually appealing and fresh.
  • Consider everyone's experience. Don't forget about accessibility features for users with disabilities or screen readers. Pay attention to color contrast, typography, font sizes, and tab target sizes.
  • Connect with users emotionally. Use qualitative methods to understand users' emotional responses and perception of your brand.
  • Embrace imperfections. Don't strive for perfection; embrace human mistakes and quirks to add personality and interest to your website. As Friedman says, "Sometimes I can smell your GPT text. I want to see TYPOS."
  • Be open to change. Don't be afraid to try new things, make improvements, and innovate your design.
  • Evoke emotions. Surprise, delight, or even challenge your users with unexpected elements to create a memorable experience.
  • Add humor. Injecting some fun and personality into unexpected places, such as terms and conditions, can make users feel at ease and at home on your website.
