Exploring the Usefulness of Cached Pages: A Guide to Google's Crawl Process

Have you ever encountered a slow or unresponsive website and wished for a way to still access its content? Thanks to Google's cached pages, this is now possible. As SEO specialists, we can also utilize this feature for troubleshooting indexation issues. Let's take a closer look at what cached pages are and how they can be beneficial to you.

Defining Cached Pages

A cached page is essentially a snapshot of a web page's HTML and content, taken and stored on a server at a particular moment in time. During its crawl process, Google takes a screenshot of each page and indexes its content for future reference. The cached page also displays the date of the last indexing, providing us with the ability to track any changes made since then.

If you're facing a slow or unresponsive website, or if you simply want to ensure proper indexing, here are the steps to access cached pages:

  • Type the website or page you want to see in Google's search box.
  • Next to the URL, click the downward arrow.
  • Select "Cached" from the options.

You will now be able to view the cached page.

Alternatively, you can add "cache-" in front of the web page's URL. For example, "cache-https-//examplesite.com".

It's important to note that if a page cannot be cached, it will still be visible online. However, as a website owner, you may want to investigate the reasons behind this and find a solution to improve your site's performance.
