Reproductive Hormones

productive hormones are also known as sex hormones. They are very important because they help in the development and maintenance of sexual characteristics, fertility, pregnancy, and menstruation. Hormones are small molecules that help regulate physiological activities in our body. They are produced by different glands in our body, which form the endocrine system. The endocrine system helps maintain homeostasis, which is the steady-state conditions in our body. The hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis is a vital part of the endocrine system. It consists of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and the gonads. The hypothalamus produces gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (Gn), which acts on the anterior pituitary and stimulates it to produce and release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) into the bloodstream. These two hormones act on male and female gonads and stimulate the release of testosterone and estrogen, respectively.

The gonads are important reproductive and endocrine glands. They are responsible for the production of gametes or reproductive cells used in sexual reproduction. In males, the gonads are called testes, and in females, they're called ovaries. The menstrual cycle is controlled by feedback systems. The levels of LH, FSH, estrogen, and progesterone in the bloodstream go through a cycle every month. The menstrual cycle is necessary for the production of an egg cell every month as well as for preparing the uterus for pregnancy. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and Transgender Hormone Therapy (THT) are two types of hormone therapy used for therapeutic purposes.

In conclusion, reproductive hormones play a crucial role in our body. Understanding the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and the menstrual cycle is important. It helps us understand the production and regulation of hormones in our body. Therapeutic reproductive hormones like Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and Transgender Hormone Therapy (THT) can be used in certain scenarios.

Reproductive Hormones

What is a reproductive hormone?

Reproductive hormones, also known as sex hormones, are steroids hormones that play important roles in the development and maintenance of sexual characteristics, fertility, pregnancy, and menstruation.

Is the female reproductive hormone cycle negative or positive feedback?

Moderate levels of oestrogen have a negative feedback effect on the HPG axis, lowering the amounts of LH and FSH released in order to return the oestrogen back to baseline levels. High levels of oestrogen in the presence of progesterone also have negative feedback on the HPG axis. However, high oestrogen levels in the absence of progesterone exert a positive feedback effect on the HPG axis, causing more LH and FSH to be released.

What is the main female reproductive hormone?

Oestrogen is the main female reproductive hormone.

What is the main male reproductive hormone?

Testosterone is the main male reproductive hormone.
