Create a course
Build a course by hand in Shiken, add chapters and lessons, then publish it.
- Press Create in the top bar. The Create Content window opens.
- Under Learning Content, choose COURSE.
- Press Add Resource, then choose Start from scratch. Shiken creates a draft with one chapter and opens the course editor at
/org/{slug}/admin/products/{id}/edit. - Click the course name at the top of the page and type a new name.
- Open the Lessons tab.
- Under Course Content, press Chapter to add a chapter. Double-click a chapter title to rename it.
- Hover over a chapter, open its three-dot menu and choose Add Text Lesson, Add Video Lesson or Add Question.
- Select the lesson and add its content.
- Press Preview. The course opens in a new tab at
/courses/{id}. - Press Publish.
You need to be an admin of your organisation. Courses are part of every package.
If Create opens a prompt box instead of the tiles, press Classic Create at the top of that window. Shiken remembers your choice in that browser.
Text lessons have two versions, Plain and Interactive, and they are edited separately. Plain is the text sent to Teams, SMS and email. Interactive is what learners see on the web and in your LMS.
Your changes save automatically. You can drag chapters and lessons to reorder them.
Publish does not check that the course is complete, so preview it first. Share links, embed codes and delivery channels on the Deliver tab only appear once the course is published. Unpublish moves it back to Draft.
To build a course from your documents instead, see the guide on generating a course with AI.
