Why it's different

Three things every skills cloud should do — and most don't

Inferred from work. Explainable end-to-end. Connected to action — not stuck in a middleware tab.

Inferred, not asked

Stop running quarterly skills surveys. Shiken infers competencies from the work people are already doing — and keeps the profile fresh every day.

  • Continuous signal ingestion
  • Confidence + freshness scoring
  • Adjacent skills suggested automatically

Explainable evidence

Every inferred skill links back to the source — the call, the roleplay, the PR. Employees can confirm, reject or refine in one tap. No black box.

  • Click-through evidence chain
  • Validation loop in Teams or Slack
  • 85%+ approval target by design

Role-fit at scale

Compare anyone against any role architecture in seconds. Spot internal candidates, surface upskilling targets, and quantify the gap between today and your strategic plan.

  • Live role-vs-skills heatmaps
  • Internal mobility recommendations
  • Gap-aware learning path suggestions

The signal advantage

Six signals other skills clouds don't have

Because Shiken owns the meeting recorder, the roleplay engine and the LMS, the inference engine gets signals no integrator can pull in.

Meeting transcripts

AI rubrics from every customer call

AI roleplays

Per-skill grading on practice sessions

Learning completions

Courses, quizzes, microlearning

Code & tickets

GitHub PRs, Jira, Salesforce cases

HRIS records

Who it's for

A skills profile every leader can use

CHRO & VP of Talent

Make workforce planning data-driven

Walk into the strategy meeting with a live skills inventory, not a 6-month-stale survey. See exactly where your strategic skill bets are landing — and where they're not.

  • Strategic skill bet tracking
  • Build-vs-buy-vs-borrow analytics
  • Skill liquidity across BUs

Example insight

Detected

42% of strategic skill bet "AI literacy" sits in 3 teams only — concentration risk

Action

Mobility matches surfaced from 11 internal candidates with adjacent skills

L&D leaders

Aim training at proven gaps

When the system knows the actual skill profile, the content recommendations get sharper. Stop assigning training to people who already have the skill — and stop missing the people who don't.

  • Targeted learning paths from real gaps
  • Auto-pruned over-assignment
  • ROI per intervention against profile

Example insight

Detected

178 Slack drip recipients already at L3 on assigned skill — over-training risk

Action

Auto-pruned recipients, redirected drip to actual gap cohort

Sales & GTM enablement

Turn coaching into a measurable system

Every recorded call adds to the skill profile. Manager scorecards, rep self-assessments and roleplay grades all roll into one number — coachable and comparable.

  • Per-rep coaching profile
  • Cohort and region benchmarks
  • Direct link to closed-won outcomes

Example insight

Detected

EMEA reps closing deals correlate with L3+ on multi-threading (r=0.71)

Action

Multi-threading roleplay assigned to L1/L2 cohort across EMEA

Plays nicely with your stack

Connect the systems where work already lives

HRIS, work data, BI, existing skills clouds — Shiken pulls signals from where they are, and pushes inferred skills back if you already invested in a Skills Cloud.

Enterprise Intelligence Suite

Three questions every L&D leader needs to answer

One data foundation, three flagship products — needs, skills and work. Each answers a question the others can't.

Needs Analysis

What training do they need right now?

Diagnose what to train, fast

A guided 3-stage agent workflow — plan the audience, interview them with multi-channel polls, and roll up the priorities into board-ready needs reports.

  • Audience-first planning with org context
  • Polls, drip and conversational surveys
  • Auto-generated needs reports with citations

Skills Intelligence

What skills does our workforce have today?

See the skills you actually have

A continuous skills engine that infers competencies from real work — meetings, roleplays, learning, code, tickets — and reconciles them with self-declared and HRIS data.

  • Inference from work signals, not surveys
  • Validation loop with explainable evidence
  • Role-fit and gap analysis at scale

Work Intelligence

What work do they do, and where does AI fit?

Plan for AI at the task level

Decomposes roles into tasks, scores AI exposure with the Stanford Human Agency Scale, and forecasts where to augment, automate or hold human-in-the-loop.

  • Task-level AI impact scoring
  • Augmentable vs automatable forecasts
  • Capacity plans aligned to org goals

Skills Intelligence FAQs

How is this different from TechWolf or Eightfold?
TechWolf and Eightfold are skills middleware — they infer skills and push to other systems, but they don't own the learning, coaching or practice. Shiken is end-to-end: the same platform that infers the skill also ships the roleplay, course or microlearning that closes the gap, and measures the lift. We also integrate with TechWolf/Eightfold/Workday Skills Cloud if you already have one — bidirectionally.
What data signals does the engine use?
Built-in: recorded meetings (transcripts + AI rubrics), AI roleplay grades, learning completions, quiz mastery. Via Pipedream Connect HRIS connectors: Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, BambooHR, HiBob, ADP. Via Pipedream Connect work-data connectors: GitHub PRs, Jira tickets, Salesforce service cases. Optional: PowerBI, Snowflake, Databricks for custom org facts.
How does the validation loop work?
When a new skill is inferred with sufficient confidence, the employee receives an Adaptive Card in Teams (or Slack message, or in-app prompt) showing the evidence chain — “3 GitHub PRs in May, 2 customer calls referencing SQL, 1 course completed” — with Confirm / Reject / Refine buttons. Validated skills feed the system going forward; rejected ones suppress future suggestions.
Which taxonomy do you use?
ESCO is the free EU-friendly default and covers ~13,000 skills. Lightcast is available as a paid upgrade. You can import a TechWolf, Eightfold or Workday Skills Cloud taxonomy if you have one — Shiken stores all three as a single graph with `external_taxonomy` provenance per skill.
How does this connect to Needs Analysis and Work Intelligence?
Skills Intelligence answers “what skills do they have?”. Needs Analysis answers “what should we train now?”. Work Intelligence answers “what work do they do and where does AI fit?”. They share one org graph, so an inferred skill in one becomes a learning path in another. All three sit in the same admin experience and chat agent.
How secure is the engine for sensitive HRIS data?
Shiken is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliant. Pipedream Connect runs each integration with org-scoped, short-lived OAuth credentials. Org-wide model-training opt-out, retention policies, regional data residency, and role-based access to inferred profiles are all configurable.
